Royal Mail’s Sajith ready for the show of a lifetime at London 2012

Sajith Ismail

As we reach the final countdown to the spectacular opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games – Royal Mail’s Sajith Ismail is getting in some last minute rehearsal time as he’ll be dancing in the event.

Sajith, who works at our Stratford delivery office, will join thousands of other performers in Danny Boyle’s ‘Isle of Wonder’ show at the Olympic Stadium on July 27th.

The event will kick off with sounds of the largest harmonically tuned bell in Europe and see the stadium transformed into the British countryside for opening scene ‘Green and Pleasant’.  It will see the parade of all participating teams in the Stadium as well as the lighting of the Cauldron from the Olympic Torch, which indicates the beginning of the Games.

Sajith, who will be taking part in his spare time, said: “We had Danny Boyle himself explaining to us what is going to be happening.

“This is a great experience and I’m having the chance to meet people from all different backgrounds.”

He added: “We’re all working together to make the opening ceremony amazing.”

Royal Mail will soon be going for gold during London 2012. We will be issuing a Gold Medal stamp for every Team GB gold medalist – and have them on sale the next day at over 500 Post Offices across the UK.

The gold medal stamps will be the first time Royal Mail has ever issued next day stamps. They will feature, wherever possible, photographs of the Team GB athlete or team in action from their gold medal winning final. This will be the first time any host country has used action shots for Gold Medal stamps and issued them immediately, during the Games. Where this is not possible, the image will be of the athlete’s gold medal winning journey taken from a heat or from their gold medal award moment on the podium.
