In March 2008 Royal Mail Group colleagues voted for Barnardo's to become our new charity partner, following the close of our highly successful partnership with Help the Hospices, which raised nearly £2million.

Barnardo’s vision is that the lives of all children should be free from poverty, abuse, and discrimination and its purpose is to help the most vulnerable children transform their lives and fulfil their potential. Barnardo’s works directly with over 100,000 children, young people and their families every year, running vital projects across the UK including: counselling for children who have been abused; fostering and adoption services; vocational training and disability inclusion groups. Barnardo’s also uses the knowledge gained from its direct work with children to campaign for better childcare policy and to champion the rights of every child.

Colleague fundraising initiatives include payroll giving, foreign coin collections in Post Offices, over the counter donation facilities for Post Office customers, quizzes, cake sales, parachute jumps, marathons, triathlons and fun runs, amongst many others!

Colleagues have also undertaken hundreds of volunteering challenges including DIY and gardening tasks, befriending a young person, CV skills training, day trips for young people and their families, assisting at events and giving up their own time to work in Barnardo’s shops.

Martin Narey, Barnardo's chief executive said: "I am truly delighted that Royal Mail has chosen Barnardo's as its charity partner and I would like to say a big thank you to all who voted for us and who will be raising vital funds."

The relationship with Barnardo’s is good for our business, good for our people and, of course, good for Barnardo’s and the children and young people they support across the UK.
