Relationship with unions
We are fully committed to engaging and involving our employees as we implement major changes in the way we operate.
At the same time, we are working to build a more collaborative relationship between management and our two unions, the Communications Workers Union (CWU) and Unite/CMA.
The CWU represent many of our frontline employees including our postmen and postwomen. Unite/CMA represent junior and middle managers.
Under the Business Transformation agreement reached in early 2010, both Royal Mail Group and the CWU have committed to modernising in order to deliver the scale of change that we both know is necessary to sustain and grow the Group.
We continue to collaborate closely on all the issues that affect our people. Our joint work with the CWU on health and safety is helping to reduce accidents and injuries.
We are also working closely together to protect postmen and women from the everyday threat of dog attacks.
We have also provided employees with a network of 100 workplace learning centres to improve the skills of thousands of our people.
The CWU’s charity, Humanitarian Aid, receives financial and logistical support from Royal Mail for convoys taking aid to vulnerable people in Eastern Europe.
Royal Mail is working with the unions to introduce training programmes and innovative working practices aimed at improving efficiency and safety across our business.
