Operations stream is now open for a start in September 2010.

Welcome to the heart of our business. Our Operations team collects, processes and delivers over 80 million items to 27 million addresses every day. Because the mail never stops, our operations people need to be engaged and motivated on a round-the-clock basis. It takes a special calibre of graduate to meet this challenge but if you’re up for it, this area of the organisation offers outstanding opportunities to have your talent and potential recognised.

What can we offer you?

Right from the start, you’ll face demanding challenges most graduates don’t encounter until far later in their careers. For example, in your first placement (you’ll have up to three over the 12-18 month programme), you will find yourself managing a team of 15-20 people. That could be as a Work Area Manager in a mail centre or Delivery Manager in a delivery office.

This part of the business is a 24 hour operation. You may have to start early, work late, or even push on through the night. So if you’re after a 9 to 5 role, this isn’t it. Nor is it for someone who likes to hide in an office, because you’ll have to constantly interact with your team to help them deliver.

There’s no getting away from the fact it will be hard work. But by the end of the programme you’ll have the leadership skills to take on a larger team, or work in a unit with a particular challenge. This will broaden your operational management experience and enable you to take on a Shift Manager or Delivery Office Manager role. And, if you’re the kind of person who thrives under pressure and is committed to delivering high standards of customer service, within seven years you could be a Senior Leader managing Royal Mail Operations.

What do you need to succeed?

  • A 2:2 degree or above
  • Drive, energy and resilience
  • Ability to motivate and inspire your team.
  • Flexible attitude to relocation during the programme
  • Right to work in the UK for minimum of 3 years from the programme start date.
