Supporting our employees and their families

We support our communities in a number of ways, including offering support to current and former employees and their families in times of hardship.

Rowland Hill Fund

The Rowland Hill Fund  supports current and  former Royal Mail employees who fall on hard times, including those dealing with sudden illness or long-term sickness, disability, or serious financial problems.  We provide an annual contribution of £50,000 as well as £60,000 in in-kind donations.

During 2015–16, the fund provided 322 grants totalling over £366,000 to help with essential spending. To raise awareness of the Rowland Hill Fund among our people, 150 Rowland Hill Fund Ambassadors volunteered to promote the Fund and its importance across Royal Mail. We expect to see more applications for grants from the Fund as a result.

Post Office Orphans Benevolent Institution

We also provide support for the children of Royal Mail Group employees through our involvement with the Post Office Orphans Benevolent Institution  (POOBI). POOBI is funded through the returns generated by investing a fund built up through employee contributions in the past, and distributes grants totalling £250,000 each year. Grants from POOBI help children facing hardship by supporting their education and helping them develop their talents.
