As the nation prepares to post their annual Christmas cards, today Royal Mail is introducing a selection of ‘singing’ postboxes across the UK, which serenade the user once a letter or card is posted.
The postboxes - a first for the Company – are adorned with beautifully seasonal snowflakes, and respond to post with one of three festive-themed ditties. These range from the sound of sleigh bells, to a jolly season’s greeting from Father Christmas.
The four boxes are located in busy hotspots* in London’s Greenwich, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Belfast, and will be launched throughout the course of this week. They will be in place for the entire festive season.
Simon Barker, Operations Director at Royal Mail said: “Delivering Christmas is our absolute priority this December. In the process, we enjoy any way we can add a little extra fun (and festivity!) to posting Christmas cards this year.”
The postboxes will be situated in the following locations, and launched on the following days:
- London: Greenwich Promenade, King William Walk, London, SE10 9HT. Officially launches on Monday 26th November.
- Cardiff: 29 Queen Street, Cardiff, CF10 2AH. Officially launches on Monday 26th November.
- Belfast: 4 Wellington Place, Belfast, BT1 6GE. Officially launches on Tuesday 27th November.
- Edinburgh: 137-141 High Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1SG. Officially launches on Wednesday 28th November.
