  • I am interested in working for Royal Mail at Christmas

  • How do I apply for Royal Mail jobs?

  • How will I know if my application has been submitted correctly ?

    Royal Mail’s recruitment system will only enable you to proceed when all sections have been completed.  If you need to double-check please log back into the system and check If your application status displays ‘Application Received’.

  • I am having problems completing my 5 year work history. What should I do?

    When completing your details please ensure that your activity history covers the last 5 years. If you leave a gap of more than 28 consecutive days in your activity history you will not be able to progress with your application. For your current activity please ensure that you leave the end date section blank. Please note the 5 year activity history can include periods of un-employment ,sabbaticals and periods of study.

  • Why can't I see a vacancy on this website that I have seen advertised at the Job Centre?

    Occasionally job adverts may be closed earlier than the advertised closing date, due to a high volume of interest. Try searching in your preferred area to see if there are any other vacancies available:

  • How do I withdraw or cancel my application?

    If your status in the summary page is showing as incomplete application, you can cancel at anytime by selecting the withdraw option.

    If you have submitted your application, received an email to complete an online test and wish to withdraw, you do not have to take any action. You should receive an email to notify you that you have not been successful. This does not affect you applying for other Royal Mail Group jobs.

    If you are due to attend an interview and wish to withdraw, please send an email to the address provided in the interview confirmation email you will have received.

  • If I withdraw or cancel my application, will this be held against me?

    If you choose to withdraw an application, this will not affect any other applications that you may have made, or may make at a future date.

  • Does Royal Mail offer work experience?

    Work experience placements are offered at the discretion of local managers, depending on local operational circumstances. If you are interested in a work experience placement, you should write to the manager of your nearest Royal Mail Delivery Office and they will be able to advise you whether or not any opportunities are available.

  • What main agencies does Royal Mail use to recruit temporary workers?

    Royal Mail has contracts with Angard, Manpower, Pertemps and Depoel. Angard manage the supply of all industrial workers, Manpower and Pertemps supply drivers only to the organisation except in instances where Angard cannot supply. Depoel provide all Parcelforce Worldwide supply regardless of job role.

  • If I am working for Royal Mail through an agency, can I apply for a job directly with Royal Mail?

    Under the Agency Worker Regulation, you can apply for any internal or external role, subject to eligibility checks. All applications should be made through Royal Mails intranet or internet sites. For further information please contact your Royal Mail line manager.

  • I'm an existing employee and interested in a transfer

    Royal Mail operates a transfer process for permanent employees, subject to eligibility checks. All applications should be made online through the careers site.

  • I currently have an unspent criminal conviction, would this be acceptable to Royal Mail?

    You are expected to answer truthfully any questions regarding unspent convictions or pending prosecutions and Royal Mail Group Ltd will require your consent to a criminal record check as part of the recruitment process. The following offences if ‘unspent’ are considered unacceptable in new recruits to Royal Mail.

    Please note: The list below is not exhaustive but instead is designed to give an indication of the type of offences that Royal Mail normally considers unacceptable.

    • Theft and all offences of dishonest appropriation (including going equipped to burgle, taking a vehicle without consent, handling stolen property, making-off without paying)
    • Fraud, forgery or counterfeiting offences (including benefit deception, traveling on public transport without paying)
    • Firearms and weapons offences (including possessing a sharp object in public, possession of a noxious gas)
    • Terrorism (other than certain conflict-related offences subject to the Northern Ireland Good Friday Agreement - these do not need to be declared during application and will be considered by applying the employers’ guidance issued by the Office of the First Minister & Deputy First Minister, Northern Ireland)
    • Offences under the Postal Services Act 2000 and prior legislation
    • Arson
    • Supply or intent to supply any category of drugs or possession of category A drugs
    • Offences against the Justice System (including perjury, bribery, making false statements, contempt of court)
    • Offences against the person (including assault, causing grievous or actual bodily harm, battery, affray, racial or verbal harassment, making threats)
    • Sexual offences
    • Breaches of orders

    In addition for certain roles e.g. driving vacancies, the requirements may differ and for some roles may be determined by industry security standards.

    Please be aware that none of these examples are exhaustive and if unsure, advice should be sought prior to making any decisions based on these.




  • Will Royal Mail accept my CV and can I post this?

    Royal Mail only accepts applications through an online recruitment system. Royal Mail does not accept paper applications.

  • I am having technical difficulties completing/launching the online tests.

  • I have set up an alert is this working?

    You will only receive an alert if a vacancy matching your criteria becomes available. You can check the criteria and amend as often as you like, once the changes are saved the alert will be amended.  

  • I have completed my application online, when will I hear something?

    You will receive an email to advise you on your progress after the closing date, to allow time for short listing this may take up to two weeks.  Please keep monitoring your emails.

  • I have a disability / health condition and cannot make an online application, what should I do?

    You should email and include your name, contact telephone number and the reference number of the position you are interested in. You will then be contacted by one of our recruitment advisors to support you with your online application.

  • I have been invited to interview and am unsure which documents to take with me.

    Your Invite to book an interview email includes an attachment listing the documents required at interview. You may need to disable any pop-up blockers to open any attachments.

  • I am unable to attend the interview times provided, is there an alternative?

    This depends on the type of role you have applied for, if you cannot attend please contact our team on the email address provided in your invite to interview email.

  • My driving licence is not in my current address, should I still attend my interview.

    Royal Mail require your driving licence to be in your current UK address therefore unless you are able to amend the address through the DVLA before your interview date we will not be able to carry out the interview. If you cannot attend interview due to your driving licence please contact our team on the email address provided in your invite email. Please note that it is unlikely that we will be able to offer an alternative date.
